Henk van Kooten
Henk Van Kooten worked for 14 years as a male Nurse in a large Hospital, during these years he also worked on a freelance basis for a local photographer.
Working in two totally different worlds, but somewhere the twain do meet.In hospital he learned how to see the patient as a psychological and somatic synthesis- and learned how to perceive emotions and how to deal with them. You learn how to look into their eyes and how to know how they feel. You observe their attitude and notice how they feel. After 8 years in these dual jobs Henk started his own Studio in 1997 in the town centre of Nijmegen in the eastern part of the Netherlands, close to the German border. He felt free, and could do things his own way. Educating himself in marketing, light and lighting Henk created whole new fields to explore and made a giant leap forward.
“Your own style” -in my opinion that was always something imposed on you by someone else. I just did the things I loved to do and thought I needed to do. Style becomes identity, Identity becomes a style.
My point of departure is that people should be able to create their personal space; they can be who they are, feel respected for there being.
Photography as a reflection. To me , imaging is a way of mutual communication/interpretation with all these different kinds of people.
The final result should - in my opinion - be called Art.
Photography is Art, at least should be a form of."
