Colour to Mono conversion has always been simple.
It never needed to be a place of multiple 'Black Magic' tricks and incoherent processes that if you were lucky - Just might work.
For me there is nothing more frustrating than finding that a technique used successfully on one image, fails miserably on the next. It is just crazy that this is the world of Mono conversion for many people today.
The Colour to Mono conversion process needs to feel like a creative one and there is no substitute for creativity with prediction and intuition, this only comes with the understanding of the process - the full process.

DVD Chapters
Conversion Overview
Here Guy takes a look at most of todays Photoshop methods for creating a Monochromatic or Black and White image. Looking at the positives and negatives of the thought process and the all important workflow issues.
Calculations
In this chapter Guy is fully focussed on using Photoshop's 'Calculations' feature to create fast, high contrast, sharp mono images. This is just one way to approach mono conversion and it is extremely powerful.
Mastering Contrast
Black and White images are created with the
control of contrast not the conversion method itself. Once Guy teaches you to control contrast you can then create any mono image you want predictably
rather than using the 'hit and miss' methodologies banded around today.
Colour Correcting Mono
This is probably the most important element to learn in controling your Mono conversion. Guy shows you that once the initial conversion is created and contrast is applied, colour correcting the image to change target areas within the image will give your final mono images another dimension.
